LearnfulOn Thursday, November 20, we hosted a live workshop with eCampusOntario as part of their Emerging Tech Pilots program: “Explore Axiom: An AI Tutor Builder.” If you missed it, the full session is now up on YouTube.

What the session covered
The goal was simple: give educators hands-on time with Axiom rather than just a slide deck describing it. Over the hour, participants got full access to the platform and worked through building their own AI tutors from scratch, then talked through how to bring those tutors back into their own courses.
We structured the hour around a few core pieces:
- A walkthrough of the platform. What Axiom actually is: a way to build intelligent tutors and classroom-ready AI agents without needing to write code or manage infrastructure yourself.
- Hands-on tutor building. Participants created their own agents live, testing configurations and seeing how quickly a working tutor comes together.
- Practical strategies for the classroom. Less “here’s a cool demo” and more “here’s how you’d actually deploy this for a specific course or learning objective.”
- Open Q&A. This ended up being some of the most useful part of the session. The questions people asked, about grading integrity, about how much control instructors retain over an agent’s behavior, about what happens to student data, are the same questions we hear constantly, and they’re the right questions to be asking.
Why we did this with eCampusOntario specifically
This workshop grew out of eCampusOntario’s Emerging Tech Pilots program, which exists to give Ontario educators structured, low-risk ways to try new technology before committing to it. That framing mattered to us. We didn’t want this to feel like a sales pitch. We wanted instructional designers and faculty to leave the session having actually built something themselves, with a clear enough picture of the platform to decide for themselves whether it fits their course.
Coming off our booth conversations at TESS 2025 earlier this month, this was a natural next step: less “here’s what we’re building” and more “come build it with us.”
What we took away from it
A few things stood out on our side of the screen:
- People want their hands on the tool, not a demo of someone else’s hands on the tool. Engagement jumped noticeably once participants started building their own agents instead of watching us build one.
- The questions about data and control aren’t going away, and they shouldn’t. Every session like this sharpens how we explain Axiom’s approach to institution-owned data and instructor oversight.
- There’s real appetite in Ontario’s postsecondary sector for tools that are built with, not just sold to, the people who’ll actually use them.
